It is always a professional, warm and friendly atmosphere. The staff are excellent and the students are exceptional. It is a most enjoyable experience and I highly recommend it.

Really amazing staff! My hair is fried all the way up to the roots and they were so very willing to help. Thank you Tamara!

Thank You.

He did a decent enough job of shaving my hair, but I decided to not move forward on asking him to to any kind of fades/tapering, as it was clear that he 1. didn't really know what he was doing and 2. wasn't all that comfortable.

The only portions of my hair that received any attention were the very front/top, and the sides. The back of my hair barely received any water and he never applied any shampoo back there. TBH, although I'm not sure if it's included, my hair wasn't conditioned either. Anyone who has worked on AA hair, should be aware that conditioner is an integral part of our hair routine.

Although my actual service appointment left a little to be desired, I do plan on returning and trying out their other service offerings, which is why I left the rating that I did.

UPDATE: Last time I was there 2 people were working on my hair, trying to comb through before blow drying. When I said I wasn't tender headed they took it as a free pass to be as rough as they wanted, ripping my hair as they combed and parted. I didn't realize how bad it was until I saw CHUNKS and CHUNKS of my hair all over the floor! I was almost in tears. I guess I have to lie and say my head is sensitive just to have my hair treated right...I know they're not all like that so I'm willing to go back but I will be weary of who does my hair.

If I could offer a bit of advice to the school, it would be:

Came here yesterday after deciding to do the BIG CHOP. Wasn't looking for anything special, just to get my hair shaved/cut. A hair wash is included as a part of the service, but to be honest, it could have been skipped. Although I don't remember the young man's name, I can only assume - based on the service that I received - that he had never worked on African-American hair before.

As it's a school, I know that these young people are still perfecting their craft, but as it's a 'salon', open to anyone, I think it's paramount that these students are able - and willing - to work on anyone who comes through the door, no matter their race. African-American women spend more on their hair and related services, than any other demographic in this country. I don't think it would be too far-fetched for us to expect that a school, teaching the craft of cosmetology, instruct their students on how to handle/work on our hair.

Outside of this, my experience was a pretty decent/pleasant one. The young lady the front who greeted my mother and I, was quite personable and engaging. The two instructors who I had interactions with, were also very friendly.

Went here to get a refill and a pedicure. Go back there and the student (who really didn't want to do it to begin with, I guess because she wasn't confident with doing nails) says she can't do my nails because I have gel on them which I was a little confused about since they offer shellac (gel). She said it would take too long to buffer the gel off my nails

I'm usually seen within 15 minutes of arrival and whenever I ask for someone who is good with my kind of hair (super thick, long, and kinky) I am never DISAPPOINTED.
